Finally this
February 12 will be the release the debut album by the one-man-band
HOGSTUL entitled "Ominous Fragmenta Tuptdalr". We reviewed his
first single "A Nightmare at 40 Fathoms" released at the
beginning of 2020 and we highlighted that the nascent solo
project Kjetil Ytterhus (PROFANE BURIAL - ex-HAIMAD - KHÔRA)
showed a very original symphonic horror metal extreme.
All this comes
from the lands of Kråkstad (Norway), where many of the most
classic black metal stories were forged. From here and from his
other great way inspiration called TUDDAL lands (also a place in Norway),
Kjetil lets his imagination fly by transforming his memories and
experiences into music.
The album
contains 3 long songs and 45:00 minutes in total. The first
is "The Beast" (18:00 minutes) who will unravel from among its
many variations and reveal that all the darkness that inhabits
the interior of our being, sooner or later will be set free and
"The Beast" will take control. The invocation of Mephistopheles
towards the end accentuates the trance and the catharsis will
inevitably come. A tormenting track...!
“Tomb” continues (15:00 minutes) and
its opening could well be the soundtrack of a Dantesque Opus, of
dark and macabre tales. Everything is balanced and going through
these fifteen minutes is a pleasant experience. We believe that this is
the best piece on this album, full of chaos and horror. The
changing atmospheres are really ingenious and we can't lose
concentration for a second to appreciate all its details.
"A Nightmare at 40 Fathoms" (12: 00 minutes) is perhaps the most
inspired by the powerful nature of its Nordic land, where
winters are truly harsh and dark. The track has violent and
nostalgic passages with excellent emotional results. With this song, this project
was born, and with it, Kjetil feels totally free to create what
his mind dictates.
We could summarize that HOGSTUL is
unlike everything and at the same time, it has a lot of old
school black metal things that inspired Kjetil for a lifetime.
What is certain is that we are facing a quality album which shows
creativity and mixes sophisticated symphonic orchestrations,
with the most somber aggressive overflow.
"Ominous
Fragmenta Tuptdalr" cover-art was made by Wendy Saber Core,
mixing and mastering by Göran Setitus (SVARTGHAST - ex-SETHERIAL) at their Stemcellar Studios and will be available
in Digipak CD formats (limited), cassette (limited) via
Screaming Skull Records and digital.
The dark power of nature raises his voice ..!
