From the German
underground (Rhinelan - Palatinate) emerges ORTUS, a black metal
band formed in 2013. The band members are Thorlur (vocals),
Fafnir (bass), Namtaar (rhythm guitar) and Nihil (clean
vocals and lead guitar).
Since its
beginnings the band has released two EP's, “Where shadows gather”
(2018) and “Forgotten Memories” (2019). This 2021 they release
their debut album entitled “Aus der Tiefe” (From the Depths),
which contains two extensive songs and 33:00 minutes in length.
The first
track gives name this album, an intense song that after a short
enigmatic start, will tackle a frenzied black metal commanded by
chaotic blast-beats with raw guitars attack. This one has the
participation of Nefastus as a guest drummer. "Aus der Tiefe"
also stops in gloomy passages with full desolation and effective
combination between.
The rain
heralds the arrival of “In nächtlicher Stille” (In the silence
of the night), and with it, darkness and depression unite
essences to give form the best album song. Clean voices
intervene remembering EMPEROR old days, the variants follow in
these 16:00 minutes are majestic and have a perfect combination,
here, ORTUS lets all its creativity fly where there are
minimalist moments as a resource too. The pitiful screams are
reminiscent to ENSLAVED from "Hordaness Land" to cite one
example. The production is good and the bass guitar presence is
prominence. A special mention deserves the melodic passage
towards the minute 12:40, where the rain returns and a piano
leads the moment on a keyboards mantle add beautiful atmospheres,
the feeling and the affliction are felt until the end.
This debut will
be to delight those raw black metal fans with worthy melodies.
The debut full-length was release via Schierling Klangkunst
label on digipak format in the first days of August 2021.
